Ask the right questions about breast cancer diagnosis
Editor:
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. It is wonderful the strides that have been made in early detection, mammogram technology and awareness efforts.
It is, however, unacceptable that women are still losing their chance for early diagnosis, correct diagnosis. An early correct diagnosis could have saved my wife's life.
All women must ask themselves, is my health care provider specialized in breast care? Does he or she follow the guidelines set forth by the American Cancer Society, the National Cancer Institute? Do they know the standard of care in diagnosing, treatment and followup of a breast lump.
And ask yourself is your radiologist specialized in breast imaging. If you answered 'no' or do not know the answer to any of these questions, it would be worth it for you to get the answers. An early correct diagnosis could save your life.
